Post Drawn & Quartered
“OMG, What a hell of a ride!”
After closing Drawn & Quartered I was finally able to read the reviews! Maggie Bofill, Lou Moreno, JJ Perez and myself should be so damn proud! If you haven’t already, check out what reviewers had to say about our play!
Here are some clips:
“…blunt, earthy, passionate and sensual…”
“Maggie Bofill…has much to be proud of, as does the director, Lou Moreno, blessed with actors reaching for the stars…The critic returned to the street, awed by the wallop generated by Ms. Bofill’s words and Ms. Fernandez and Mr. Perez’s pas de deux.”
- Andy Webster, New York Times, June 16th 2011.
“The performances are top notch under the direction of Lou Moreno.”
- Sandi Durell, Examiner, June 10th, 2011.
“Actors Liza Fernandez and Jose Joaquin show immense talent in their performances, authentically capturing the whirlwind of emotions exposed as their characters plumb the depths of their bitterness and intense sexual desire.”
- Adrienne Urbanski, The Easy, June 10th, 2011.
Drawn & Quartered
Liza gets Drawn & Quartered!
Liza stars in Maggie Bofill’s world premiere of Drawn & Quartered, directed by Lou Moreno; a two-actor work about the physical remnants of a long-term relationship, developed through Off-Broadway’s INTAR Theatre and their New Works Lab.
Drawn and Quartered is about the explosive reunion of a couple: Ana and Michael were together for four years – until the night of the big fight, when Michael left without coming back to get his stuff. After no contact for six months, Ana decides to sell the studio apartment they once shared, and on hearing Michael’s down and out, hires him to do it. She leaves him instructions and upon her return two days later, finds he’s thrown much more than paint on those banged up walls. What ensues is the volcanic grapple of two people – angry, impassioned, lacerated, and still very much in… something. A story about torture, pain, paint, and love, all to the beat of a live conga.”

Dramatis Personae
Liza has the distinct pleasure of working on her first Off-Broadway production of a new play by Gonzalo Rodriguez Risco entitled, “Dramatis Personae” to be directed by Erik Pearson at The Cherry Lane Theatre. A sneak peak: a fascinating and twisting maze into the creative minds of three writers as they are forced to come to terms with their jigsaw-puzzled hearts and heads, and the gripping politics outside their window. More info at playwrightsrealm.org .
Fucking Vigwan
Liza will be sharing the stage with some New York veterans including Elizabeth Rodriguez, Liz Canavan, Adrian Martinez and Sidney Williams. Atlantic Theater Company’s Latino Mixfest (A Festival of New Plays) presents, F**cking Vigwan, written by Pulitzer Prize nominee and fellow Teatro Vista ensemble member, Kris Diaz, directed by Stephen Adly Guirgis. Kris jumps off the cliff with this one! An abrasively entertaining play, both absurd and profane. We are taken through an outrageous world where anything goes including sword fighting and zombies. Warning: don’t bring kids. Lots and lots of references to sex, drugs, police brutality, foul language, necrophilia, and neo-colonialism. But you gotta come check it out: www.atlantictheater.org
Basilica
This month, Liza had the pleasure of working with Mando Alavarado on his new play, “Basilica,” directed by Michael Ray Escamilla; a play currently under development at Rattlestick Theater for their upcoming season. The reading was held at Rattlestick’s Artistic Director, David Van Asselt’s home Upstate! Chips, dips, BBQs, pool time, and an awesome reading with some fantastic actors. You gotta check this play out when it’s up and running!
